Unheard is a music series that explores listening, curiosity, and spontaneity through collaborative improvisation. In 2024, two artists-in-residence lead three in-the-round performances throughout the year featuring rotating groups of multi-instrumentalists. From silence to the unexpected, each performance uncovers the blissful moment when freedom takes form and sound takes shape.

This year’s artists-in-residence are Kalia Vandever and Photay.

Kalia Vandever is an American trombonist with a sonorous tone and lyrical improvisational voice. She leans into the challenges of the instrument and allows patience and melody to guide her process. Her debut solo album, "We Fell In Turn" featuring her works for trombone, voice, and electronics released on AKP Records in March, 2023 to critical acclaim.

Photay is the alias of Woodstock, NY-based composer, drummer, DJ, producer and musical polymath Evan Shornstein. As Photay, he has recorded a quartet of albums that organically bring together intricate chamber-pop arrangements, post-techno electronic textures, and a love of polyrhythms. Most recently, he teamed up with Carlos Niño on the sublime "More Offerings" released on International Anthem in 2022.
